( it's somewhere just outside of a small town in alabama that they've decided to call home for the evening. it's been said that the south has always been filled with magic. hoodoo, voodoo — anything and everything occult in the united states of america tends to point back to the south. so it should really come as no surprise that their next call on the map comes in the form of a droplet of blood just outside of louisiana.

normally, she knows better; she's more careful. tonight, after gathering some food for john and chas, zed makes the mistake of making physical contact with the cashier. it's all downhill from there.

she can't quite put her finger on just whatever it was the young girl is on, but it brings zed to an entirely different world. colors, warmth, intimate moments that she's sure she's not meant to see, and the feeling that she could probably — if she put her mind to it — do whatever the hell she wanted. this feeling follows her all the way back to the motel, where she immediately strips down to her underclothes and dives into the pool without another thought.

the bag of cheese burgers and french fries that she brought back for chas and john sits on a table by the poolside, growing colder by the minute, but zed's not here at the moment. she's among the clouds, a smile on her face as the water beneath her holds her in place, floating along the surface.

cicadas in the surrounding area scream at her, but it sounds more like distant twinkling and chiming than the noise she really knows them to be making. it brings a smile to her lips as she runs a hand over the smooth surface of the cool water. she's not sure how long it's been, minutes or hours, when she finally hears footsteps by the poolside, bringing her back to the present. )

Can you make people fly with your magic?

'Fraid we've passed Oz on the way here, luv. Shame, that. Perhaps you could've asked the Wizard. Way I hear it, he's all sorts of giving. [ he pauses, pocketing his hands in his trousers. ] Just one of the wonderful things he does.

[ john stands at the edge of the pool, brows furrowed as he surveys the scene. from the cooling meal, to the sight of zed stark bloody naked in the water, it's one for the books, this one. come any other circumstance, he might find himself proud of her. finally taking a step out of her box and into the wide, open spaces, is she?

it's the question that really brings him to reality. the dreaminess of her voice. despite their little excursion, it would appear their girl's taken a trip all on her own. down the yellow brick road. ]

Let me guess: found yourself a bit of southern comfort in these parts, have you?

[ john crouches forward, steadying himself with a few fingers. he gathers a better look at her. in the reflection of the pool's light, she seems about as ethereal as her mind's more recent findings. if only he hadn't left his phone back on his hotel nightstand. ]

Judging by the state you're in, I'd say — bit of Lucy in the Sky. There's a girl, skippin' the small town rubbish and headed straight for the Big Leagues.
